Choose a monitor light bar when you want task lighting around a desk without placing a lamp base there, and the monitor can accept the documented mounting arrangement. Keep a suitable desk lamp if your screen cannot accommodate the clamp or if lighting placement matters more than freeing that space. A light bar is not automatically a better fit for a laptop, portable screen or video call.
We use the original BenQ ScreenBar Halo, identified as CR20_C in its manual, because BenQ publishes the mounting steps, power requirements and controller details. This is not the ScreenBar Halo 2. We have not measured glare, illumination, color accuracy or effects on eye health, and assign no performance rating.
Check the monitor, not just its diagonal size
The original Halo specification page lists flat-monitor thickness 0.7–6cm and curved-monitor thickness 1.6–3.8cm. The captured original Halo manual also lists 0.7–6cm, but states 0.7–3.8cm when the curved accessory is used. Those curved ranges differ. Treat 1.6–3.8cm as the overlap of these published ranges, not as proof that every curved monitor within it fits. Ask BenQ about the exact monitor and package if the fit is uncertain, especially below 1.6cm.
The manual says to extend the counterweight, rest the clip on the monitor and keep the mounting arm perpendicular to the monitor. The front bezel of the light must not press against the panel. For a curved monitor it calls for the accessory brick, and the pad with the brick if the assembly is still unstable. A thickness number alone cannot certify the rear contour, bezel clearance or stability of your monitor.
| Physical check | Evidence to match | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Flat screen | Published 0.7–6cm range plus actual bezel/back shape | Thickness alone does not prove safe contact |
| Curved screen | Exact monitor, accessory brick/pad and the two stated ranges | Spec/manual lower-bound discrepancy remains |
| Thin portable screen or laptop | Obtain explicit model-fit guidance | Halo evidence does not establish universal laptop compatibility |
| Webcam above monitor | Check clearance and actual accessory needs | Original Halo spec lists webcam accessory as optional |
The manual’s package list includes the lamp with USB cord, wireless controller, curved accessory, ultraslim-curved pad and three AAA batteries. Check the actual offer rather than assuming another Halo generation has the same accessories.
Choose the supply using the installation instructions
Both the specification page and manual list 5V, maximum 1.3A device input and maximum 6.5W consumption. The manual separately instructs a 5V supply rated 1.5A or above for normal operation. Use the installation requirement when selecting the supply; do not mistake the lower consumption figure for the complete supply-selection instruction.
The documented connection uses the supplied USB cord and its USB Type-A connector. The manual says not to use a USB extension cable. A spare monitor USB socket is useful only if its documented output meets the requirement. Check its behavior when the computer or monitor sleeps if you need the lamp to remain usable; this guide has not verified that behavior for your screen.
| Power/control item | Documented requirement | Buying implication |
|---|---|---|
| Supply | 5V, rated at least 1.5A per manual | Verify actual port/adapter output |
| Lamp draw | Maximum 1.3A / 6.5W | Consumption figure does not replace supply instruction |
| Wireless controller | Three AAA batteries | Controller still needs separate battery maintenance |
| Cord | Supplied cord; no extension per manual | Check reach before committing to placement |
Do not assume a wall power adapter is included: the captured original manual package list does not list one. Do not transfer Halo 2 package features into this original Halo decision.
Task light, face light or keep the lamp?
The manual documents front-light, ambient-light and combined modes controlled from the wireless controller. Select the light for the task you need. The video-call light guide concerns lighting a face; it does not establish that a monitor light bar supplies the same result. The portable monitor guide covers display setup, not permission to attach this clamp to every travel screen.
| Choice | Budget evidence checked October 16, 2026 | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|
| Keep a suitable desk lamp | New light-bar purchase avoided | Lamp base occupies desk space |
| Original ScreenBar Halo | Exact delivered price unknown; include suitable supply if needed and future controller batteries | Clamp, rear clearance, cord reach and controller upkeep |
| A different Halo generation or light | Requires separate model/package review and pricing | Original Halo specifications cannot establish its fit or included accessories |
Match the original kit before buying
The October 20 check of BenQ’s original Halo package page lists the light bar, wireless controller, three AAA batteries, curved-monitor accessory, thin-monitor pad, manual and warranty material. The original-Halo Amazon listing we inspected describes the lamp with integrated clamp and USB cable, controller, curved accessory, thin-monitor pad and three AAA batteries. The listing separately points to Halo 2 as a newer model. This evidence supports the original-model listing match; it does not transfer Halo 2 features to the older light.
| Package decision | Original Halo evidence | What to check in the offer |
|---|---|---|
| Remote control | Wireless controller and three AAA batteries listed | Controller and battery contents, especially for open-box offers |
| Curved or thin monitor | Curved accessory and thin-monitor pad listed | Both accessories present; actual monitor fit still conditional |
| Power | Lamp includes its USB cable; manual requires a suitable 5V supply | Do not assume a wall adapter comes with the kit |
| Webcam placement | Original webcam accessory is optional | Treat it as a separate purchase unless the selected offer explicitly includes it |
The Amazon buying-options panel showed a new-condition offer from a third-party seller during this check. No checkout was performed and we do not quote a price or promise stock, dispatch or delivery. A product page can combine offers with different sellers and conditions: confirm the seller, original Halo model, included parts, return terms and delivered total in the offer you actually choose. If those details are missing, keep a suitable desk lamp while you clarify them. Do not buy a higher-priced or incomplete original kit solely because its product page shares reviews with another offer.
Compare the complete kit only after confirming the screen fit. The documented controls and mounting arrangement support a practical setup decision; they do not establish glare elimination, eye-health benefits or measured brightness in your room.
